Join process via email

Movement provides you with a link to include in your sign up email which will preload a message for the members to send to your business WhatsApp to subscribe.

How it works

This link uses merge tags to pull through unique member IDs and first names. By pulling through member IDs you can reconcile data from Movement with your existing systems and pulling through first names allows you to personalise your WhatsApp messages.

You will need to replace the example merge tags in the link provided with the merge tags your email system uses to pull data through.

The link will look similar to this, using your WhatsApp number and email system merge tags:

https://wa.me/447361582405?text=ADDME%20{{first_name}}%20{{member_id}}

When the member clicks the link it pre-fills a WhatsApp message for the member to send to sign up including their first name and membership number, populated by the merge tags:

The member will receive a confirmation of their sign up, and an account will be set up and subscribed to WhatsApp in Movement with the Member ID, name and phone number.

You can upload addition data on your members to personalise your messages or update details by using the uploader.

Join process from direct link

If you wish to allow people to subscribe to WhatsApp with a direct link, you can use a similar link that preloads with the message ADDME.

How it works

Once the message is sent, it will create a profile on Movement but with no identifiable information. As such, WhatsApp will send an automatic response asking them to send ‘ADDME’ again and their first name. Movement will then update that profile with the first name accordingly.

Where people sign up with a direct link, it will be more difficult to reconcile this data with your existing systems as you will not have a common ID and will need to use mobile numbers to match.
